I'm at it again, playing with my photos, in search of the elusive 'perfect' picture setup....if such a thing exists. Photo taking has always been the bane of my existence. However, I vow to master it some day! This time I tried a black background. I have long given up on white backgrounds....I can never get them white, they're always blue or grey, and I don't have the expertise to use something much fancier for photo editing than the picture editor that comes with my computer. So here it is, what do you think? I was concerned the black may be too much, but I think it goes with my look, don't you?

By the way, this is my new Celtic Moonspice scent. I've added a bunch of new items this weekend, so stop by my shop and check them out!

It's been so long since I've posted! We...ok ok, *I*...there was no "we" involved.... rescued a new puppy from some mean people at Walmart. That was almost 3 months ago. Isn't he adorable? He's sporting his Holy Cow collar by the fabulous Jennie B. Goode. His name is Pirate. (We already have Mama Poochins, whose name is Pearl a.k.a. The Black Pearl, so it was only fitting that we have a piratey name for this little guy!)

It's getting to be that time of year that I love...fall and Halloween! Now if only the weather would follow suit! There's lots of new things in my shops, because you know how much of a Halloween fanatic I am! Be sure to stop by and say "hey", I've missed you all!

Here's a little excerpt from Jewel's blog:

"I was born on October 16, 2005, 12 weeks too early. I only weighed 2 lbs. 9 oz. Now, I'm four years old, and have grown SO much! I'm beautiful, crazy smart, and I have cerebral palsy. My legs don't work like the other kids' legs do. I want to run with my big brothers and dance ballet like my big sister, but my brain doesn't send the right messages to my legs. I've worked really hard in therapy for years, but it's still just not enough. I need a little bit more... 300 miles away, at the St. Louis Children's Hospital, there's a doctor who can help me. He can perform surgery on my nerves so that they stop sending the wrong signals and I can learn to walk. My family and I are beginning an adventure that will change all of our lives. We just need your prayers and support to get us there. Wait and see, I'll be running all over the place soon! Look out world, here I come!"

If you are feeling extra generous (and please, feel extra generous), you can follow the link that's there, and it will take you to PayPal, where an account has been set- up to assist with covering the costs of this very important surgery.

This isn't a miracle cure for Cerebral Palsy. But it is a miracle. It is a MIRACLE that there is a doctor in St. Louis who can give a little girl the chance to walk. To run. To play like a child who hasn't had to always overcome real challenges.

But wouldn't it be better if she didn't need to use it anymore??

A Brief Intermission....While We Have a Car Fire

I'm so sorry I missed drawing the blog giveaway winner yesterday my loyal readers!! I am going to let this week's contest go another week, and I will draw the winner next Sunday, June 6th. And then we'll proceed as if we never missed a beat! :)

Needless to say, it was a very "Memory filled" Memorial Day..and I don't mean that in a good way. This is our 2000 GMC Jimmy. We were riding in down the street when it suddenly started shooting flames out the back, which luckily I noticed quickly in the rear view mirror. I mean how can you not notice flames that big? Anyway, nothing like running for your life while watching the car you were just riding in become engulfed in flames to get the adrenaline pumping.....

This is the front seat where my oldest and I were sitting....

And this is the seat my two youngest were sitting in. I am thanking God right now that we're all here to tell about it. I'm also glad I didn't have any kids in car seats, I'm not sure I could have gotten to them in time, it happened so fast.

Scary Sh*t folks.....

Going Green!

In addition to my regular line of candles, I've started rescuing jars from the trash/recycle bin here and there, and I plan to make them into candles like this one. Book Review ~ Crafty Superstar~

Recently I've been doing a little bit of research to see if I can help my business 'take the next step'. I came across this book titled Crafty Superstar by Grace Dobush. Don't let it's small stature fool you, it's packed with TONS of great information! I have to say it's an excellent book, especially if you're new to selling your crafts. Not only does it give you awesome tips on such things as:

* How to make a light box
*Craft shows
*Press Releases
*Getting legal
*Wholesale

it's also very easy to understand and well written. It even includes example forms that you may use in your biz for book keeping, orders, inventory and invoices. All in all, even a seasoned craft vet like me found useful information in this book! Definitely worth a glance!

You Can DO it!!! Get Yourself Published!

Many of you may remember me talking some while ago, about submitting some work to a trade magazine. I was VERY nervous, I would go so far as to say I was scared! I purchase a lot of card magazines, and I always am awed by the work that I see in there, but I never had the guts to submit my own. I page through them and think to myself "Oh how cool it would be to see my name in print!" One day, while I was flipping through one of the new mags I had just purchased, I saw the Rock and Roll Challenge, which you know is right up my alley! So I bit the bullet, filled out the submission form and mailed my creation into the world. And instantly forgot about it.

About a week ago, my son came running in the house with the mail, saying "Mom, what's in this big envelope?" I hadn't bought anything that week, so I really didn't know. How delighted was I, to open the envelope and see my card, accepted to the Rock and Roll Challenge? Yes, that's right, I was PUBLISHED! And let me tell you all, if I can do it, YOU CAN TOO! Come on fellow artists and crafters! Submit your work to your favorite magazine of your trade. For a few cents postage, I got to see my name in print. Let me tell you, it was quite the ego boost!

So if you want to check out my work, it's published in the April 2010 edition of Scrap and Stamp Arts. It's on news stands now! :)

Yarn Porn ~ Undiscovered Etsy Talent ~ HooksandEyes

Merlot, Wool and Bamboo Handspun Yarn $22

I will fully admit, that I don't know a darn thing about yarn, but I sure do know that it's soft and cuddly, and that Theresa from HooksandEyes, has some fabulous yarn!

When I asked her to tell me a little bit about herself, this is what she had to say:

"I learned to crochet from my grandmother as a little girl, but I didn't really get into crochet until about 6 years ago when my little girl was born. I wanted to make beautiful baby things for her. After awhile I began to admire some of the beautiful yarns available. I found a fiber community at Craftster and was bit by the bug to learn how to spin my own beautiful yarns. My darling husband gave me a learn to spin kit one Christmas so I sat down and taught myself to spin based on reading and photographs. I made some very lumpy natural colored wool yarn which became a scarf for my husband. I am totally embarrassed yet completely pleased with that funny looking scarf. After about 3 months of spindle spinning I got my first wheel and I’ve been spinning like a mad woman ever since."

I rarely 'connect' well with women, I don't have many girl friends, I'm kind of a freak. However, when I met Misty of WickedSoaps online, we clicked. Maybe it's because we're almost the same person in two different bodies? (I think that means she's a freak too!) We enjoy (and dislike!) a lot of the same things, and we want to take over the world with Pink Sugar!!! Easy Asian Salad Recipe

For a delicious (and EASY) weeknight meal, or when you're really just craving a salad. My kids even eat this up! I sure wish I could take better food pics, but believe me when I say it's yummy!

I use the 50/50 mix of spinach and lettuce in the bag.
Cherry tomatoes
Mandarin Oranges (in the jar)
sliced almonds
Asian noodles
toasted sesame seeds
Kens Asian Sesame dressing (from a bottle)
Chicken

Now let me tell you about the chicken. This time I used grilled chicken strips. You can find them in a bag in the frozen section. I have also used fried chicken fingers cut up, fried chicken patties cut up, and once, when really in a time crunch, chicken nuggets from McDonalds (I know, I KNOW!) So do whatever is easiest for you!

SNOW!

We had a bit of snow last night, while watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. The kids seemed to have lost interest by the J's of the parade of nations, so we went out for a walk. We walked up the street a little way, turned around and came home. It snowed a few weeks ago in the night, and by morning it was ice, so I wanted the kids to say they actually got to be "IN" some snow this year.

Today they played outside for a few hours mid morning, but by noon it was all gone!

Korean Pork Recipe

First of all, I can not take credit for this recipe, my boy Emeril taught me how to make it. However, I will say it is DELICIOUS! My whole family likes it! I must tell you though, that my picture is not very appetizing. It needs a little green, no? Well, you're supposed to wrap it all up in Boston, Bibb or Butter lettuce, and make like a Korean burrito. However, I can not find that lettuce here in back woods country USA. Strictly iceberg...sooooo......we don't do it. LOL However, without further ado, here is the recipe:

After you purchase your pork tenderloin, be sure to pop it in the freezer for about 30-45 minutes, so it's easy to slice in 1/4" thick slices!!

Hot Sauce
(This goes on the pork before you eat it. I don't like hot stuff, so I don't put it on there, and it's still delicious!)
2 TBSP Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce
2 TBSP of sesame oil
4 tsp honey

Pork Marinade
A good 45 minutes to an hour in this marinade should do it. Last time I made this I marinated it overnight, and it didn't make a difference.
1/4 c soy sauce (we use low sodium)
1 TBSP sugar
4 tsp Sesame Oil
1/2 c chopped green onions
1 TBSP minced garlic
1 TBSP minced ginger

Whisk these together in a bowl until the sugar dissolves. Pour over pork. Marinate in refrigerator. Cook in skillet in a few drizzles of oil (I use olive, but you can use vegetable).

Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

Serve with Jasmine rice. If you can find the right lettuce, make the wrap with rice, pork, and a few dabs of the hot sauce. Believe me, you only want a few! LOL

Random Musings About Soy Wax Tarts

Chocolate Turtle Brownie Soy Wax Tart Melts $4.00

So for a while now, I have been trying to figure out why I'm just not getting into The Tempting Tart like I should be. I have enough scents to make tarts for ages! Anyway, I just couldn't put my finger on it. I love the branding. I love the idea of tarts, it's just that nothing was getting done. The other day I was up in my craft area, and I figured it out. Could you believe it was something as simple as the shape? I mean, I've been collecting all these molds, with all these grand ideas to do with them, and my heart just wasn't in it. But I'm on the ball now!! Yesterday I deleted my whole shop, and I'm restocking as we speak! I'm going to offer muffin shaped melts (round ones) in 2 size packs, a 4 pack and a 6 pack. The delicious food scents will be made into grubby type melts, ones that look like real muffins. And now, I have a purpose, and LOTS of ideas!

For those of you that don't know what a wax tart is (also called a melt), it's a highly scented, wickless alternative to a candle. You need a melt warmer or candle warmer to melt them, and once they do, they release their scent into the air and make your house smell delicious! There are some pretty cool melt warmers out there too. Some melt the tarts with electric, but most use a standard tea light (you can get these at the dollar store in packs of 50 and 100 for...well...$1.00! Tarts are a great alternative for those of us that can't commit to one scent for very long. Once the wax hardens up, you pop it out and change the scent. You can even mix scents for your own custom blends....strawberry and vanilla, hot apple pie and vanilla, etc.

I haven't given up on my resolution to keep my blog up and running this year (yet!) . For those of you wondering, I'm buried under a mountain of papers. The same papers that I make a resolution, at the beginning of every year, to do by the month, so I don't have to spend weeks at the end of the year sorting, adding, recording, re-adding, checking and balancing. Um yeah...never ONCE has this resolution kept. So why fight it? I'm down to the last three weeks of December. I should be able to get those done this afternoon some time, and then I'm just waiting on hubs W-2. Then we can REALLY get this party started!!!

Delicious Tuna Melts

Every morning I always ask the kids what they want to have for dinner, and sometimes I even take their suggestions into consideration...LOL. Yesterday, my oldest requested tuna melts. I love tuna melts, however with our larger family, it's not a 'cheap meal', because we need about 12 cans of tuna. Anyway, I decided to entertain the request, since it's been a while since we had them. I have to say, these were the best tuna melts EVER! My youngest even ate it while it was hot and said it was delicious! (That's how we know if something is good, if it gets eaten before we have to reheat it for him...lol) So without further ado, here's the recipe! (Remember, large family here, so you can probably cut this down if need be!)

Terrific Tuna Melts

4 crusty hoagie rolls cut in half length wise
6 12 oz cans of chunk light tuna in water, drained
1/2 jar of kalamata olives, pitted and finely chopped
3/4 c and 3 Tbsp mayo (or to taste)
1/2 finely chopped red onion
Sliced tomatoes
Provolone cheese
1 Tbsp pepper
Salt to taste

Combine tuna, olives, onion, pepper, and salt in a large bowl and stir.
Spread rolls out on baking sheet, and spread with a thin layer of mayo. Place sliced tomato over rolls. Spoon tuna mixture on top of tomatoes and top with Provolone cheese. Sprinkle with pepper. Broil for 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Tahitian Vanilla Bath Cupcake 3 Pack $7.00

Let me direct your attention to one of the sweetest shops (and sellers) on Etsy!!! Meet Miranda, the head cupcake mistress at myotherprincess. She concocts the most delicious fizzy bath cupcakes EVER, so you should head directly to her shop! And try not to eat them, although you will definitely want to! Not only are they deliciously scented, they're skin moisturizing and definitely a wonderful for a 'pamper yourself' bath. Or maybe one of those 'lock yourself away from the children' baths. With scents like Sugar Cookie, Cinnamon Bun, Dulce de Leche and Brazilian Nut Coffee, it can be hard to choose. They come in two sizes and multipacks. and I'm thinking Valentine's Day guys! Perfect as gifts for your special woman! :)

But wait! Not only does Miss Miranda make these frothy and fizzy cupcakes, she also makes soap! This pumpkin soap is one of my favorites! (You may have noticed my addiction to pumpkin products by now!) Smells so delicious!

Tater Tot Casserole

Rarely do I make a dinner that ALL of my kids eat and ask for seconds. In fact, I really think this is the only one. Tater Tot Casserole. There are probably 150 tater tot casserole recipes out there, but this is how I do it. I've made this twice now, and I finally have the filling to my liking, however, I have been using the Mini Crown tots instead of full size, because that's what I had in the freezer. However, I think it needs a little more potato, so next time I will use full on tots!

Remember, I have a big family, so you may be able to cut this recipe down in half. Also, feel free to add/delete some of the items if they are not to your liking.

Tater Tot Casserole (My Take)

2 lb hamburger meat
1 onion
1 giant can of mushroom soup
2 cans veggies (this time I used 1 peas, 1 corn)
1 can sliced mushrooms
2 packs shredded cheese
1 bag Tater Tots

Brown the grown beef and onion. Add the can of mushrooms at the end. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drain. Mix in can of mushroom soup, veggies and 1 pack of cheese. Flatten in the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch casserole dish. Layer tater tots on top. Spread remaining bag of cheese over tots. Cook at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until tots are done and cheese is melted. I'm sure you could put just about ANYTHING in here.

I had a semi productive day today. Sent the kids off to school. Went back to bed for a bit. Talked to my sister. Made some new items. Froze my arse off. Brrr. It's not supposed to be this cold. I'm totally ready for spring. I'll even take it with the pollen, the sinus headaches, the grass growing, and inevitable cutting. Bleh.

Record cold here in North Carolina. Brrrr. I don't want to go outside. I definitely am not motivated to take pictures! Eeek! The dog goes out to do her thang and comes right back in, she doesn't meander around, chasing squirrels, creating havoc outside like she normally does. I deflintely wouldn't mind a light dusting of snow! Just enough to make it a winter wonderland outside, and make all this cold worth while, but then again, it would mean "snow day"...and after that long, hair raising Christmas vacation, I'm not quite ready for that!

Pumpkin Chocolate Swirl Soap $5.50

In the past, I admit, I have not been true to hand made soaps. I used the nasty, store bought, detergent bars, and didn't think much about it (or my skin!), unless I wanted a change from my normal scent. Not any longer!! WickedSoaps, a deliciously brand new shop (but definitely not new to soap making), has changed my mindset on handmade soaps FOREVER!

My dear friend Misty has tons of delicious products in a wide variety of scents, and recently she even made a soap based on one of my suggestion, Chocolate Cherry Cola. I'm honored. For reals!

While I have tried several of her soaps, (and currently have a bar of the cherry cola, and Kahlua type on it's way to me!) my ALL TIME FAVORITE is the Pumpkin Chocolate Swirl. Seriously, you'll never want to leave the shower! In fact, even while my hubby is always fond of saying "soap is soap", last week I figured out he was using my delicious soaps too! *sigh* MEN!!!!

Ok I'm back! I took a little break from blogging (ok ok, a BIG break!) and I figured I'd give it another shot. It's a new year, time to make new resolutions, try new (or maybe REtry old things) yadda yadda yadda....

I first noticed Denise's shop because we both seemed to have a major love for Halloween. I noticed her soap several times while doing Halloween searches. Her Halloween soaps are definitely not the norm!! They're very unique and fun! Then I met her in chat, and what an absolutely wonderful person she is! We've become regular chatters! I'm still having a hard time getting off this "Halloween" kick....Almost everything I'm making for my shop is spooky or creepy or halloweeny. I have to sit down every morning and force myself to make one thing that is not. LOL Something about keeping the balance, but it could be all mental.

It's been a while since I posted. I've been busy playing 'bar maid' to my husband's 'bartender' at his new bar. Needless to say, he likes the bar! If you haven't seen the pics yet, you can see them HERE. And be sure to follow my Facebook page also while you're over there! I tend to have an easier time keeping up with that than my blog! I promise! As for the rest of the summer...we're planning a little beach vacation if we can break ourselves away from the bar long enough. (Not that we're lushes or anything!) I'm liking the frozen drink concoctions in this heat!

Candy on My Mind

Apparently I still have candy on my mind from yesterday's post about Halloween. I decided to make some of these cute treat bag toppers. They'd definitely make any event or party special! They could also be filled with product (soaps, beads, etc..) All you need to add is your treat or product of choice, and adhesive! (Staples, glue dots or double sided tape on each side of the top of the bag)

I have lots of plans for these babies, but right now I have to run errands first...eeew.
