New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of year again...you know the one...where we all make New Year's resolutions, and then never stick to them? I'm not really one for personal resolutions, I try to be a good person every day of the year, but this year, I'm hoping to set some strict business New Year resolutions, and hopefully I will have the willpower to stick to them!

As I sit here packaging up the last of my 2008 orders, I begin contemplating what 2009 will bring?? (Surely it will bring me forgetting that it's 2009 every single time I write a check until at least March!) But I digress. This is going into my third full year as a 'legitimate business'. I'm about 6-8 months behind on my book keeping which leads us to my business New Year's Resolution #1...complete book keeping MONTHLY! This year is going to be heck trying to wrangle all that paperwork. Last year I had to do the WHOLE YEAR! (You could call me a procrastinator!) Anyway with math not being my strong point, it was a hair raising week (ok ok, TEN days) of addition, subtraction, organizing paperwork, etc. Next year, I VOW not to have to do it. I will do my book keeping every month! Daily if I have to!

Anyway, since I haven't completed my book work, I'm only guessing I didn't show a profit again this year. This is due to a nasty little compulsive spending habit I have. I know I have it, but up until now I have chosen not to do anything about it! IRS says you have to show a profit 3 out of 5 years. That means the next 3 years I must show a profit!!! YIKES! So that leads me to my business New Year's Resolution #2...No more unnecessary spending!!! Aside from a large wax and fragrance order here in the beginning of the year, and some sterling silver head pins, I am not buying ANYTHING unless absolutely necessary to keep my business running! This is going to be the hardest one to stick by for me, however, I have tons of supplies that I can USE sitting around here doing nothing but taking up space. That means no more paper, beads, unneeded scents...just the necessities. With the state of the economy right now, and the uneasiness as to which way it's going to go, I'm going ease back on the spending.

I've really only set up two New Year's resolutions for myself, but they're going to be TOUGH for me to stick to.

So tell me, what are your New Year's resolutions? Whether they business or personal, I wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Most definitely cutting back on spending. Hope to get the shop looking fantastic and a lot more put in.

Good luck daughter!

Wait a minute! Are you telling me I can't feel good about going on endless shopping sprees at Michael's just because I had a sale in my ETSY shop last week?!?
You sure know how to spoil a girl's fun!

I also promise to get better at my bookkeeping this year - It will take me 2 weeks just to figure out what I did last year... I can honestly say that I am worse at bookkeeping than YOU are!

hugs,
Robin

Rut Rho for the supply sellers cause I decided to only buy what is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY supply wise. That means I may not buy supplies for a long long time. Seriously, I almost went on a supply binge on December 31st because of my resolution!!! Yikes!!

Best of luck on keeping yours!!
