This little guy came to visit us today. We were all quite excited to see a praying mantis on our sliding glass door, and my bug loving sun got to study him for a while. Also, they're said to be good luck, so I was hoping it would turn my run of bad luck around. However, apparently it was not to be. Tonight I decided to weed my garden, and I went to walk up the back deck when I was done. I got about half way up and I felt a web, so I bent down to see what it was, and it was the HUGEST Black Widow Spider I have EVER seen. like from the first knuckle of my thumb to the end of it. Eeew...I STILL have the heebie jeebies. Normally I would just leave her alone, because I don't go out much anyway, but with my kids running around out there, I can't. I don't want to kill her, but I'm unsure how to 'relocate' her. I am not sure my "squirm factor" will let me do this without some squishing.
Sadly, I did not get a picture of my black beauty friend. Mostly they come out at dusk and night, however, if she's around tomorrow for me to take a picture in the daylight, I just may.

Good luck with that. lol
Eeeeeewwwww! I really don't like spiders! If you call animal control will they come pick her up??? I'm still in Atlanta visiting my folks - it's a nice break from working on the boat!
Hugs,
Robin
Funny I saw one of these today in our outside toy box. I got pictures of it too, and last night while I was watching my husband take out the trash I found a black widow in my garage. So weird you have seen them both recently too!
Beautiful Praying Mantis.
