SNOW!

We had a bit of snow last night, while watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. The kids seemed to have lost interest by the J's of the parade of nations, so we went out for a walk. We walked up the street a little way, turned around and came home. It snowed a few weeks ago in the night, and by morning it was ice, so I wanted the kids to say they actually got to be "IN" some snow this year.

Today they played outside for a few hours mid morning, but by noon it was all gone!

Be sure to enter the Beat the Monday Blahs blog drawing HERE for a chance to win some delicious bath fizzy cupcakes from myotherprincess. Drawing is tomorrow evening! And don't forget to mark my blog, to come back Monday and enter the new drawing!

Unintentional New Photography Backgrounds

Blizzard Lampwork Ring $15.00

Not only has the snow been pretty to look at and play in, but it has provided me with a lovely new background, at least for a day or so until it melts. I think it shows off this new ring I made, titled "Blizzard" just perfectly. Even though it was unintentional (and cold!), it has made me realize that maybe there are other, better backgrounds out there for me to use for my photography. What kind of backgrounds have you discovered? What works for you? For me it has to be natural lighting (outside) for the best pics. I've tried a light box and it just didn't work for me. But oh how I wish I could take pictures inside at night. Sometimes there are great things that come out of 2 AM beading sessions that I have a hard time waiting to list until the sun is out!

The Best Six Inches EVER!!!

I bet you thought this was going to be somewhat of a dirty post didn't you? You know the title and all? It's not. But truly, this is the best 6 inches of snow ever! This doesn't happen in North Carolina, or it hasn't in the 6 or so years I've been here. It has snowed 2 or 3 times, just enough to fall to the ground so you can see it, and then it melts.

This morning I was awoken to "Mom, MOM, IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!" Which prompted me to roll over and put a pillow over my head. Because really, what's the point of getting up if it's just going to be gone by the time I get dressed? Not two seconds later my doorbell rang. Now I had to get up. I went to my front door to see my neighbor all bundled up in tons of clothes (which is really not anything exciting since she's from Miami, and can't stand the cold weather!), and then I looked past her to the SIX INCHES of snow that blanketed my yard and vehicles! WOW! She asked if we were going to come out and play. So we rushed to get dressed and we went outside for about 30 minutes to play. Needless to say we are ill equipped for the snow. All of my kids had plastic bags on inside their shoes. LOL

But looking at this picture, can you see the excitement on the littlest guy's face? He can barely stand it! Even the dog, who hates rain, LOVES the snow.

I did clean off Lucy (the burgundy car) with the broom, but it's STILL snowing! Luckily, they cancelled our appointments for the day, and the base seems to be closed down. No one's at work. Even the commissary is closed, which is bad, because I have no milk! :( I guess I Didn't believe them when they said it was going to snow. I figured it was going to be like it was the last few times.

I'm all warmed up now, and we're going to go back out and have another go at the snow!
